Mindee Ong is best remembered for her lead role as ‘small papaya’ in Royston Tan’s movie, 881. Her strong performance has garnered her much critics & fame, breaking into new grounds for her acting career. This talented actress first joined the entertainment industry at 17 years old in 1996, when she secured a place as the youngest finalist in a Talent Search Singing Contest. Since then, she is a familiar face on television shows as well as several mandarin variety programs. Mindee was also named the Babe of the Year in The New Paper’s annual Flame Awards for 2007. In recent years, Mindee was cast in several short films & tele-movies. She starred as the lead role in the short film, Birthday which garnered the Best Short Film Award at the 2005 Bangkok Short Film Festival. Her other short film, Buy Me Love earned the Winner of MDA film Fiesta-Professional award. She was most recently seen in tele-movie, Goodbye Kucinta on MediaCorp’s Channel 5. Her theatre credits include the sellout mandarin musical If There’s Seasons, the musical Lao Jiu by Theatre Practice, Stranger at Home, Momo by Drama Box and Shanghai Blues starring opposite Hong Kong actor/singer William So in a mandarin musical by Toy Factory. In 2007, Mindee together with other Singaporean performers joined Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng and Singapore Ambassador to United States, Mr Chan Heng Chee to launch the first-ever Singapore Day at New York City. The inaugural Singapore Day was an overwhelming success and attracted more than 5, 000 people living in and around New York City and from neighboring cities and states. Her latest movie 12 Lotus, by Royston Tan was recently nominated for Best Film, Best Director and Best Performance at the Singapore Film Awards 2009. For the first time in Singapore, Mindee is hand-picked to be the first ambassador for Sembonia, a modern lifestyle luxury brand for leatherwear. Displaying her flair for creative design, Mindee’s collection for Spring/Summer 2009 will be launched in June 2009. Mindee Ong is represented by FLY Entertainment. |
