Carla Dunareanu About

21st Asian Television Awards Best Comedy Performance by an Actress/Actor

Born and raised in Essen, Germany to a Romanian father and Chinese mother, Carla knows too well the need to adapt in a cosmopolitan world. Having spent many of her early years migrating not just to different countries, but different continents, she has equipped herself with the essential tool of versatility.

After settling in Singapore at the age of 8, she began her professional acting career at age 11 with a short film entitled Gourmet Baby. It later went on to open at the New York Film Festivals and is still being used as a teaching instrument in LaSalle College of the Arts for its unique cinematic edge. Little did she know that that one short film would snowball into a whole avalanche of projects.

Being one of the most employed child stars in Singapore of her time, Carla was involved in numerous other short films including Autograph Book, which walked away with the Best Short Film title at the 2000 Silver Screen Awards in Singapore. At the age of 13, she landed her first permanent slot on a hit children's TV series entitled Kids United. Her career was just beginning and after being involved in many guesting and features on various TV series such as BluePrint, Heartlanders, Yang Sisters, Incredible Tales and Champs, she scored her next leading role in a popular TV series First Mums at age 16. Things were not slowing down when just the next year; she was blessed with another permanent role in a very successful series called En Bloc.

After juggling school and filming for more than 5 years, she decided to put performing on hold and pursue her studies, graduating from LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore with an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Acting. Not a month out of school, she was offered a role in the first ever Asian musical TV series, The Kitchen Musical. The series went on to win numerous awards at various festivals around the world for its unique concept in incorporating singing, dancing, acting and food.

Since being involved in the first season of The Kitchen Musical, Carla's reputation in the Philippines grew so much so that she was offered a permanent slot on the hit Filipino radio station Magic 89.9. Her first professional Philippine stage debut was the 2013 season opener for Philippine Repertory Theaters' hit comedy, 'Boeing Boeing'. 'Grease' the musical produced by 9 Works Theatrical in 2013 was Carla's second production in the Philippines. She was later nominated for her role in GREASE under the category of 'Female Featured Performance in a Play'.

After a successful 2 and a half year stint in Manila, Carla returned home to Singapore to continue her love for performing, and appeared in the Mediacorp Channel 5’s series Koji Cooks.

She has hosted the 28th SEA GAMES, a travel show called MISSADVENTURES, Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix Stage and on HBO Central. She has appeared in numerous series for tv and online including HBO Asia’s first Original Comedy, SeNT.
